Surgery Went Well

Everything went fine with Riley's surgery yesterday. We were told he would sleep most of the day - NOT! On the way home, he kept rolling his head over towards me and saying, "I love you mommy." He was pretty out of it. We tried to lay him down when we got home. I was going to take a nap with him, but he just kept talking. He would say, "Mom, you're a lady and I am a boy." I believe he finally took a nap around 3pm yesterday.

Joel left for a meeting in Nashville after Riley's surgery yesterday, so Uncle Brian and Tiffany (our nanny) are here with me. We put Riley to bed and thankfully, he slept all night. He woke up in a pretty crabby mood this morning. I'm sure some of it is the morphine wearing off, and maybe some pain from his toes. They were bandaged until today. I came home at lunch and took the bandages off and soaked his feet and put medicine and bandaids back on. Riley did not enjoy this at all, but it has to be done twice a day. While I was home at lunch, he started saying his tonsils hurt, which I took to mean he had a sore throat. He also kept scratching his ear. When I got home from work this evening, I noticed the same ear had been draining. Dr. Stephanie came over tonight and confirmed that Riley has an ear infection. We have started him on ear drops since he is already on two antibiotics. I don't think I have mentioned how wonderful Riley's doctor is, but I must now. Since we have been home (November 24), we have made one visit to her office. She has come to our home once a week since then. She has come on Sundays, her days off, late at night, whatever it takes. Riley always enjoys her visits, although tonight, that did even help his mood. We have been so blessed to have such wonderful people surrounding us through this whole process. Hopefully Riley's toes and ear will feel better tomorrow and he will be more like himself. I miss his smiling face!
