This has really turned out to be a great Christmas. It was pretty weird waking up this morning and Riley not knowing it was Christmas. He has always been so excited to get up and see what Santa has left under the tree. This year was very different. He usually doesn't wake up very happy and it takes a little while to see what kind of mood he is going to be in. He did take a few things out of his stocking, but wasn't really in to opening gifts. He opened one present and the rest are still under the tree.
A lot of the day was spent cooking and eating. I love this time of year! Several of our friends had said they were stopping by, which was great since Riley is always wanting visitors. First to arrive were our good friends Heidi and Patty. Riley cheered up a little, then really came alive when we decided to move to the basement for a change of scenery. Brandy and Autumn were also coming by, but we got a great surprise when they brought along Rachel, Nonna and Nana. It was great to see them all, and we could tell Riley was really excited. Unfortunately, it didn't take very long before the excitement was too much stimulation for Riley and he got pretty cranky. The last of our planned visitors, or so we thought, was Tiffany, our new nanny. She had asked if it would be okay to stop by and bring something for Riley. She got to meet all of Brandy's crew, so that was good. Everyone but Tiffany left after Riley (via Autumn) opened some really cool gifts. Thanks everyone! So Riley was having a little dinner while me, Nonna and Tiffany were talking when we heard a knock on the door. Nonna immediately thought Papa had went outside and locked himself out of the house, but then realized she heard singing. Someone answered the door, I'm not sure who, and there standing at our back door singing Christmas carols were several of our friends, Heidi, Patty, Jeff, Lori and the Sinclair family! It was wonderful and made my whole day! Riley was still busy eating and didn't pay too much attention, but it was just what I needed. Thanks guys! It was wonderful getting to see so many of our friends on Christmas, old and new. We are so blessed to have such good friends! I want to wish all of our family and friends who we weren't able to be with this year a Merry Christmas too. We miss you and hope to see you all in the new year!

What a wonderful holiday!
ReplyDeleteRiley has it right, the family and friends are more exciting than the gifts (although they are fun too!) I am so happy you had a good Christmas and got to see everyone. I can just seeing Heidi and Patty and Jeff and the gang caroling - that is so awesome!!! I wish only the best in 2010 for you, Joel and little Riley - I pray that this year will be filled with God's most special blessings and that you can look back on this past year as a soon to be distant memory. We love you guys!
