On Our Way!

We are on our way home! Riley seems to understand where we are going because he has not complained one time since we left this morning at 10am. He has talked the whole way!

Just to address some of the questions I know people have... while we are very excited to get home and see all of our friends, Riley is still on isolation. He is not allowed to be around school age children or children in preschool. His immune system is still not strong enough to fight off all the potential germs and infections that are common in schools and other settings where there are small children. Even when we received visitors, Dr. Martin said it should be in small groups, and obviously, Riley can't be around anyone who is sick or has been exposed to any sickness.

Food. First of all, I LOVE IT! I would love to come home to a kitchen full of goodies, but this is another very cautious area when it comes to Riley. He can only have food that has been cooked fresh for him - no leftovers or food that has been sitting around. Although we appreciate all of the offers, it would be better to spread things out so we don't end up with a ton of food that is sitting around that Riley can't have. Again, we appreciate all the prayers and enthusiasm from everyone on our arrival to Chattanooga!

A special note to Riley's teachers at HVCS and church: I know we will eventually begin running in to Riley's old friends. He dearly loves them all and talks about them constantly! I think it may be a good idea to begin explaining to the other kids about Riley's sickness and how the disease and transplant process has affected him. It may be easier for them to understand Riley being "different" than when he left Chattanooga back in March if they are aware ahead of time. Although I had never thought about it, Autumn, who is 10 and has seen Riley through this whole process even asked me if she drank after Riley if she could catch it. Things like that that we may take for granted may be scary to them.

Well, we are eating in the Burger King parking lot and getting ready to give Riley his 2pm meds, so I need to go! We love and miss you all and can't wait to be home!
