Looking Good!

Riley is looking more like himself today. Probably because Joel couldn't take it any longer and decided to shave Riley's sideburns, mustache and goatee last night. He also shaved between his eyebrows, so no more unibrow. It did make Riley look more like his old self. I was really surprised that he let Joel do it. We may end up regretting it when it starts growing back in, but for now, he looks great.

We had a busy but good day today on our first "normal" day back in town. Riley had an appointment with his pediatrician this morning, then we went to TC Thompson Children's Hospital to have his port accessed and have blood drawn. Everything went smoothly, but some how, our few errands and appointments ended up taking the whole day like it always seems to do. I just got a call from his doctor and his labs looked good, so if nothing comes up, we are good to go until next Monday! My problem now will be trying to find things to keep Riley busy and entertained throughout the day. He will still have physical therapy and occupational therapy here at home, but none of that has been scheduled yet. Also, he will eventually be evaluated and home schooled, but that will require me getting him registered, hopefully sometime this week.

Riley is sitting in his recliner trying his best to go to sleep for the night (at 6:30pm), and I am waiting on coffee to finish brewing so that I won't be asleep before 7pm myself. We are both pooped. I haven't seen Uncle Brian since we got back home this evening and I have a feeling he is in the basement taking a nap too. Long but productive day.

PS - if anyone has any suggestions of places I can take Riley where there aren't crowds, please let me know!!

  2. I'm so glad to hear that Riley is doing so well! We are stuck here till they find out what is going on with Olivia's white blood count. It's been slowely increasing over the last week despite some changes to her antibiotics. She has no other symptoms and seems to feel fine but her White blood count is up to 40! Tomorrow will be a long day at the hospital for us with a CT scan and some more labs. I'm scared but we'll just have to wait and see.

Oh and places to take Riley. I don't know if you guys live near a golf course but Olivia LOVES to ride around in a golf cart (I even let her steer sometimes). I wipe down the cart with clorox wipes and we bundle up and she has a blast. Of course it' the weather is too cold that won't work. We also just discovered a drive-in movie theater near here. I don't know if there's one near you but we all had a blast. That's all I've discovered so far but if you get other great suggestions let me know as we're always looking for fun stuff to do also!

  3. there are a couple of drive-in theaters, a really nice one in north alabama not far across the state line on 59. not sure when they start their winter schedule. most movie theaters are all but empty during the day while school's in session, wouldn't you think? epb has the elf decorations in its window, when it warms up a bit. i'm sure there are times of day when the aquarium and imax aren't filled with field trip kidlets. will keep thinking....

  5. The other day while looking up what movies were playing, I clicked on their rewards program and learned that the movie theater has a program that you can go view movies for free if you give them feedback - I am not sure of the details but you could go online to see if you and Riley could go see a movie all by yourselves - also in the summer you could go to the drive-in theatre. Even places like Dave & Busters are almost empty if you go early enough - maybe you could do an outing each week with Riley but go right after opening to avoid crowds. I am so happy to see Riley smiling - being home will be healing for all of you - also - what about places like Mad Potter you could ask them when a slow time would be to have him create pottery and do crafts? I'll try to think of some more things - hope you enjoy your day! Love Deb
