I have never been so thankful to be home with my family as I am this Thanksgiving Day. We made it to Chattanooga Tuesday evening around 7pm. Riley seemed to be very happy and excited to be home. He did say something about "our house" but I couldn't catch exactly what he said. When he woke up Wednesday, he wanted to "hop in the van" again. I don't think he would have minded if we turned around and drove the whole day Wednesday too. He is very happy riding for some reason. He couldn't have been any better on our trip home. The only problem we had was about the last hour of the drive. He was hungry and began asking for chips, cheeze-its, pizza, etc. Of course when we got home, Joel went to the store and by the time he got back, Riley had forgotten all about being hungry.
Yesterday was spent recuperating and unpacking, as will the next several days. It is unbelievable how much stuff we had with us in NC. Making room for all of the new things we will need to care for Riley will take some time, but I'm giving myself through Sunday to get unpacked. Monday we will be back to our doctor's appointments, but fortunately here in Chattanooga!
Riley was happy to see his animals, although he doesn't like Indy getting too close. He is already doing an awesome impression of Indy licking. He has pet both the cat and the dog, but it has to be when he wants to, not when they approach him. Riley is also saying he wants to go back to class. Another reason I think he fully understands we are back home.
I don't think anything could make this Thanksgiving any better, other than the whole past 8 months to be wiped away. We hope everyone is having as happy a Thanksgiving as we are. We are so thankful and blessed to be where we are, all together.
What a wonderful post and a great Thanksgiving gift. I am so thankful you all are home.
